The year of 1808 is known in Spain as the year of the outbreak of the Spanish War of Independence - a celebration of liberation from the yoke of French rule - to the British a somewhat late and confusing attempt to get on the right side of history as Wellington“s Peninsular Campaign took the Napoleonic Wars to the French border. We take you to the actual places of the fighting that started on the 2nd of May of that year and whose retribution which began the day after and is so graphically depicted in the paintings of Goya - most symbollically the " Tres de Mayo" that hangs in the Prado Museum and walk you through this bloody insurection- complete with graphic accounts of the struggle for Madrid and for Spain
